New Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Monday led a mega cleanliness drive at the Malviya Nagar Market in the South Zone of Delhi.

Taking the lead in the mega cleanliness campaign organised by Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay, Mayor Pravesh Wahi actively participated in the initiative and personally took to the streets to sweep the roads. The effort aimed to raise public awareness about cleanliness and convey the message that the active participation of every citizen is essential to making Delhi a clean city.

On the occasion, Mayor Pravesh Wahi said continuous efforts were being made to make Delhi a clean, healthy and beautiful city. He stated that, alongside regular cleanliness drives, improved waste management and public awareness initiatives, necessary action would also be taken to make public spaces free from encroachments.

He asserted that unauthorised encroachments on roads, footpaths and other public spaces would not be tolerated and that action would be taken in accordance with the rules.

The Mayor appreciated Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay for his efforts to strengthen sanitation arrangements in the area, address public grievances and expand civic amenities. He emphasised that effective coordination and continuous dialogue between elected representatives and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were essential for the overall development of the area and for ensuring better facilities for residents.

He said the mega cleanliness drive in Malviya Nagar was not limited to cleaning alone but represented a meaningful initiative towards making the area cleaner, better organised and free from encroachments.

He added that such campaigns could help maintain cleanliness in public spaces while also fostering a sense of responsibility among citizens towards their surroundings and increasing awareness about the importance of sanitation.

The Mayor stressed that cleanliness drives should not remain one-day activities but should evolve into sustained mass movements driven by continuous public participation.

He appealed to market associations, shopkeepers, local residents and the general public to dispose of waste only at designated places, refrain from littering public spaces and extend their cooperation to sanitation workers.

He further emphasised the need to keep public spaces free from encroachments to ensure that pedestrians and other citizens could move around without inconvenience.

Municipal councillors, representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and a large number of local residents participated in the programme.

Those present included Malviya Nagar MLA, Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman and former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, along with Pankaj Naresh Agrawal, Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and other civic officials.
