New Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Delhi Police, warning that it will launch another protest if permission is not granted to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar. The party has also urged the Delhi Police to determine a suitable date and time for the demonstration and formally inform it of the decision.

CJP Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka and National Spokesperson Saurav Das visited the Parliament Street Police Station on Monday to seek permission to hold the protest.

Speaking to reporters, Saurav Das said, “The police generally ask everyone to approach them at least 10 days in advance. We have now offered them an alternative: they can decide the date and time for our protest at Jantar Mantar and inform us accordingly. We are giving the police administration 24 hours to make a decision.”

It may be noted that opposition parties, including the Congress, along with several student organisations, have been staging protests over the past several days.

Meanwhile, the CJP had announced that it would hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. However, the protesters were unable to reach the designated protest site due to the heavy deployment of police personnel.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the immediate suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
