New Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): Women Members of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage a protest today against Congress MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. The BJP women MPs are scheduled to assemble at around 11 a.m. in front of Indira Bhawan on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg in New Delhi to register their protest.

Akoijam represents the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency in the Lok Sabha. He is also a professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

According to media reports, 11 female students of JNU filed complaints related to sexual harassment against Akoijam in May 2026. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj has accused the Congress leadership of failing to take action in the matter. The BJP has demanded that the Congress initiate disciplinary proceedings against Akoijam and suspend him from the party.

The BJP has also questioned the responses of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over the allegations.

The development is likely to assume political significance, potentially bringing the BJP and the Congress into another confrontation amid their ongoing political rivalry. The protest is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. today.
