New Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mahila Morcha staged a protest outside the Delhi Congress headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg on Monday over sexual harassment allegations against Bimol Akoijam, a Congress MP from Manipur and a former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The protesters demanded that the Congress leadership clarify its position on the matter.
BJP Delhi unit president Harsh Malhotra targeted the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, saying that women from Delhi had gathered to question the Congress leader over allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Akoijam by 11 female students of JNU. Malhotra claimed that a university committee had upheld the allegations, following which the professor was removed from the university.
Malhotra said women in Delhi wanted to know why the Congress was maintaining silence on an issue involving alleged misconduct against women. He demanded that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership respond to the matter and make their position clear.
