Bhubaneswar, 12 October (H.S.) : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has achieved a major success ahead of the student union elections in Odisha. ABVP candidates have been elected unopposed to 252 posts across 60 colleges in the state. These include 12 President posts, 17 General Secretary posts, 22 Vice President posts and 23 Joint Secretary posts.
Following the conclusion of the deadline for withdrawal of nominations, no other candidates remained in the fray for these posts. In several colleges, Congress-affiliated NSUI and Biju Janata Dal-affiliated BCJD also failed to field candidates. This situation highlights the challenge faced by politically affiliated student organisations in earning the trust of students on campuses, while ABVP continues to strengthen its position through year-round engagement and sustained outreach among students.
ABVP has registered notable successes across several colleges in Odisha. At Berhampur University, ABVP has won the posts of President, Drama Secretary and Cultural Secretary. The organisation has also swept all major posts at Talcher Autonomous College, Dharmasala Degree College, Mahima Degree College (Joranda, Dhenkanal), Chikiti Degree College (Berhampur), People's Degree College (Buguda) and Khajuricata Degree College (Hindol). ABVP's electoral successes across several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Kerala and Assam, further reflect its growing acceptance among students nationwide.
ABVP National Secretary Shravan B. Raj said, In Odisha, ABVP’s contest is against the political approach of Congress and the Biju Janata Dal, which prioritises political calculations over students’ interests. Despite the political backing enjoyed by NSUI and BCJD, their failure to field candidates in several colleges demonstrates that political connections or support alone are not enough to succeed in student politics. Consistent engagement with students and earning their trust are essential. ABVP's workers remain among students throughout the year, understand their concerns and continuously strive to resolve their problems, whereas some organisations become visible only during elections. ABVP candidates being elected unopposed to 252 posts across 60 colleges reflects this working approach and the trust the organisation enjoys among students. ABVP will continue to work consistently for students’ interests, and we are confident that students will extend widespread support to ABVP in the upcoming student union elections as well.
ABVP Odisha East State Secretary Deeptimayee Pratihari said, ABVP’s success across colleges in Odisha is the outcome of the hard work, sustained activity and strong engagement of its workers with students throughout the year. Every ABVP worker remains consistently active on campuses, raising students’ concerns and safeguarding their rights. The trust of students is ABVP’s greatest strength, and these unopposed victories reflect that trust. We are confident that ABVP workers will secure an impressive victory in the upcoming student union elections on the strength of students’ confidence and will effectively raise issues concerning student welfare.
