Mumbai, 11 October (H.S.):
The first look of the animated film ‘Maha Devi Adishakti’ has been unveiled on the occasion of Navratri. Directed by Milind Nandannwar and written by author Akshat Gupta, the film is produced by Gaurav Malhotra under the banner of Artha Entertainment and Animation. It is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in February 2027, with Shreyas Puranik composing the music.
The film seeks to introduce India’s rich cultural traditions, religious narratives and spiritual heritage to the younger generation through the medium of animation.
The animated feature will explore the various manifestations of Adi Shakti and the stories of her divine power. Its narrative will include accounts ranging from Maa Mahishasuramardini, who slays the demon Mahishasura, to Maa Kali. The filmmakers aim to present these mythological episodes in a contemporary cinematic format while preserving their original messages and cultural significance.
According to director Milind Nandannwar, these stories convey the enduring message of the triumph of truth and righteousness, a message that remains relevant to every generation.
One of the film’s distinctive features is its traditional, hand-crafted animation. At a time when the use of artificial intelligence is growing across the creative industries, the filmmakers have chosen to prioritise animation created by hand. More than 150 animators have contributed to the project.
Producer Gaurav Malhotra said the film had been designed to appeal to audiences across generations, enabling children, parents and grandparents to enjoy it together.
Titled ‘Maha Devi Adishakti – The Legend of Maa Durga’, the film seeks to connect younger audiences with India’s spiritual heritage through family-oriented entertainment, combining mythological storytelling with the visual appeal of animation.
