Sharmila urges Delhi voters to seek deletion of CEC Gyanesh Kumar's name from electoral rolls

Amaravati, 10 October (H.S.): Andhra Pradesh Congress president Y. S. Sharmila on Saturday appealed to voters in Delhi to submit Form 7 seeking deletion of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's name from the electoral rolls, saying this would help him understand the concerns of citizens whose names were allegedly removed without their knowledge.

In a statement issued by the Congress, Sharmila said the appeal was intended to highlight the anxiety faced by voters over alleged deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She accused the system of undermining democratic rights and the integrity of the electoral process.

Form 7 is used to raise an objection to the inclusion of a name or seek the deletion of an existing entry in the electoral roll.

Sharmila also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making a remark against him in connection with the issue. The Congress leader said the right to vote was fundamental to democracy and called for transparency, fairness and accountability in the electoral revision process.

Meanwhile, Sharmila was reportedly stopped while driving from her residence to attend a protest against alleged voter deletions under the SIR process. The protest was intended to raise concerns over the revision exercise and seek accountability for alleged wrongful deletions.
