Mumbai, 10 October (H.S.): Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor is all set to entertain audiences with his new game show, ‘India’s Top 1%’, scheduled to air on Star Plus and JioHotstar from September 19. During the show’s shoot, the veteran actor shared an intriguing anecdote about his blockbuster film ‘Mr. India’, revealing that the iconic jacket he wore in the movie was purchased not from an expensive designer boutique but from Mumbai’s famous Chor Bazaar.
Released in 1987, ‘Mr. India’ remains one of the most memorable films of Anil Kapoor’s career, with his distinctive jacket look continuing to resonate with audiences even today. Nearly 39 years after the film’s release, the actor is set to don the same jacket once again in a special episode of his upcoming show.
Anil revealed that he had carefully preserved the shirt, trousers and jacket he wore in the film. When the show’s team expressed curiosity about whether the original ‘Mr. India’ costume was still available, the actor confirmed that the entire outfit remained safely in his possession and still fitted him.
Speaking about the theme of the special episode, Kapoor said it carried a message of considerable social significance. He recalled that legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor had also appreciated the film’s message after watching it.
According to Anil, ‘Mr. India’ conveys the idea that everyone can become a Mr. India in their own way. The special episode is dedicated to individuals who serve the nation selflessly, without expecting recognition or personal rewards.
By bringing back his iconic look from the 1987 film, Kapoor hopes to evoke nostalgia among viewers while reinforcing the values of service, responsibility and devotion to the nation.
