Hooghly, 10 October (H.S.): BJP leader Locket Chatterjee targeted the opposition during a visit to Saptarshi Ghat in Tribeni, Hooghly, on the occasion of Mahalaya, where she performed tarpan. She alleged that the opposition was misleading students and young people in the name of protests. Describing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as necessary for national security, she said those making allegations should provide evidence.
Speaking about Durga Puja, Chatterjee claimed that funds provided under the Annapurna scheme were being used to organise pujas in several places. She also alleged that a crackdown on extortion and illegal commissions had led to several large-budget pujas being cancelled or scaled down this year.
