
Guwahati, 10 October (HS): Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh on Saturday flagged off a National Motorcycle Rally from the headquarters of the 4th Assam Police Battalion, marking the preparations for National Unity Day 2026. Organised on the initiative of Assam Police with the cooperation of police forces from northeastern states, the rally will travel from Assam to Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.
Addressing the participants at the flag-off ceremony, Singh said the motorcyclists represented the spirit of national unity and integrity. He expressed hope that the initiative would help strengthen the bonds of unity and togetherness across Assam and the northeastern region.
Speaking to the media, the DGP said the rally aims to spread messages of national unity, brotherhood and patriotism among the public. It will also seek to generate awareness about the harmful effects of illicit substances.
A total of 63 police personnel from northeastern states are participating in the rally, including nine from Assam. Participants also represent Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
Senior officials of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) attended the event. Internationally acclaimed athlete and Olympic boxer Lovlina Borgohain was also present on the occasion.-----------
