
Amaravati, 10 October (H.S.): The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) across local bodies, finalising category-wise quotas based on the report of the Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission.
The approved reservation percentages vary according to the elected post, with separate quotas fixed for rural local bodies and urban municipal institutions.
For rural local bodies, the Cabinet approved 26.73 per cent reservation for panchayat ward members and 27.95 per cent for sarpanches. The quota has been fixed at 25.55 per cent for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members and 24.60 per cent each for Mandal Parishad presidents and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members.
For Zilla Parishad chairpersons, the approved reservation is 23.08 per cent. In urban local bodies, the Cabinet cleared 32.78 per cent reservation for ward members and 33.02 per cent for municipal chairpersons.
The reservation for mayors has been fixed at 35.29 per cent, according to the report.
