Shahjahanpur, 1 Oct (HS): A terrible double-murder case has
been reported from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where the burned remains of two
sadhus were discovered inside a temple on Thursday. Baba Gopal Das (70) and
Baba Bihari Das (60) have died. Both lived in a small temple in Sutha village,
which is overseen by the Khudaganj Police Station. On Thursday morning about
7:00 a.m., local villagers spotted smoke pouring from the temple complex. They
discovered the burned corpses of the two sadhus around 10 meters apart. One
body remained blazing, while the other had been reduced to a skeleton.
According to reports, the crime was the result of an ongoing
land dispute over the temple's grounds. The perpetrator is accused of viciously
beating the sadhus, tying them down to wooden platforms (takhth), and setting
them on fire with fuel obtained from around the temple grounds. Sumit Singh, a
local with a past criminal record and just released on bail, was apprehended.
Additional interrogations and forensic investigations are presently conducted
to reveal all facets of the crime.
