
Imphal, 01 October (HS): Two suspected rebels were arrested in separate operations conducted by Manipur Police and security forces during the past 24 hours, while another person allegedly involved in extortion activities was also apprehended. A cache of arms, ammunition and other materials was recovered during a search operation, police said.
According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Thursday, a strong Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was set up at Chandrakhong on Wednesday following credible intelligence about the infiltration of a senior cadre of PREPAK (Pro) through Kamjong from Myanmar. During vehicle checking, police arrested self-styled captain of PREPAK (Pro), Moirangthem Boboy Singh alias Langam, 56, a resident of Kakmayai Mayai Leikai. During interrogation, he reportedly disclosed his role in recruiting four teenagers from Bishnupur and sending them to Myanmar.
In another operation the same day, a team of CDO Imphal East conducted an operation at Khurai Puthiba Leikai and arrested Nepram Singhajit Singh, 46, an active cadre of RPF/PLA. He was allegedly involved in recruiting new cadres and had come to the area to arrange a bus ticket for a newly recruited cadre to travel to Ukhrul.
Meanwhile, acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Chandel Police and Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in the Molcham Police Station area and recovered a concealed cache of arms and ammunition. The seized items included three single-barrel muzzle-loading (SBML) guns, one pump-action gun, one Chinese grenade, one locally made grenade, four dummy mortars, four detonators, two delay fuses, a container containing nine pieces of wire suspected to be intended for use in IEDs, eight pouches, one Baofeng set, 16 rounds of 5.56 mm M4 ammunition, one 9 mm round and two bullet-proof covers. The recovered materials were handed over to Molcham Police Station for further necessary action.
In a separate operation based on information regarding extortion activities, a team from Churachandpur Police Station apprehended a person from Khomoi village. The individual was identified as Letginthang Haokip, 44, of Churachandpur. During investigation, he allegedly admitted to collecting money from the general public in the name of various armed organisations. A mobile handset and ₹10,000 in cash were recovered from his possession.---------------
