Tamulpur (Assam), 01 October (HS): The Tamulpur district administration has issued an advisory urging people to remain alert and maintain a safe distance from herds of wild elephants moving through different areas of the district.

The administration has particularly appealed to residents not to gather near the elephants or disturb their natural movement. It has been observed that some people have been approaching the herds and flashing torchlights at them.

As the herds also include elephant calves, such activities could frighten the animals and potentially separate the calves from the herd, increasing the possibility of human-elephant conflict, the administration said.

People have been asked not to shine torchlights at the elephants, gather around them, follow or chase the herds. The administration has also advised against illegally installing electric wires or unauthorised solar-powered fencing along elephant movement routes.

Residents have further been urged not to burst firecrackers or light fires to drive the elephants away or obstruct their movement.

The district administration appealed to the public to allow the elephants to move along their natural routes without disturbance and cooperate in ensuring the safety of both people and wildlife.-----------
