Aichi-Nagoya, 01 October (H.S.): Indian wrestlers Mansi and Aman advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective events at the 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, while judoka Yamini Maurya also secured a place in the last eight with a convincing victory.

In the women’s 62kg round of 16, Mansi defeated Kazakhstan’s Irina Kuznetsova 6-1. The former World Championship bronze medallist in the 59kg category controlled the contest throughout to secure a comfortable victory and progress to the quarterfinals. She had also defeated Kuznetsova at the Budapest Ranking Series earlier this year.

Mansi will face South Korea’s Jo Su-Bin in the quarterfinals. Jo Su-Bin had reached the bronze-medal bout at the 2024 Asian Championships.

In the men’s Greco-Roman 77kg category, Aman produced a strong comeback to defeat Mongolia’s Borgil Tuvshinbatar 8-6. Aman was trailing 2-6 at one stage but fought back with a series of rolls to overturn the deficit and secure victory.

Aman will next face Qatar’s Asian champion Shahin Badaghimofrad in the quarterfinals.

In the men’s Greco-Roman 60kg quarterfinal, reigning junior Asian champion Sumit Dalal suffered a narrow defeat to Iran’s Sajjad Abbaspouragani. The bout ended 1-1, but Abbaspouragani was declared the winner on VPO1 criteria. Sumit, however, remains in contention for a place in the repechage, depending on his opponent’s progress in the competition.

In judo, Yamini Maurya defeated Qatar’s Fatena Bou-Kahous by ippon in the women’s 57kg category to advance to the quarterfinals. She will face Mongolia’s Ariunzaya Terbish in the last eight.
