Aichi-Nagoya, 01 October (H.S.): Indian archer Chikita Taniparthi bowed out of the women’s individual compound event at the 2026 Asian Games after suffering a narrow 143-144 quarter-final defeat to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Asharifa on Thursday.

The closely contested defeat ended Chikita’s campaign in the individual event, with a single point separating the two archers at the finish.

Chikita, who had won two gold medals as part of India’s successful compound archery campaign on Wednesday, appeared on course for a place in the semi-finals. However, an eight-point score in the closing stages proved costly, allowing Nurisa to maintain her composure under pressure and finish with 144 points.

Chikita had entered the individual competition seeking to build on the achievement of defending champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam and continue India’s strong record in the women’s compound event. Following her quarter-final exit, India will not have a medal in the individual competition.

The Indian archer had played a key role in Wednesday’s landmark performance, winning gold in both the women’s compound team and mixed compound team events.

In the mixed team competition, Chikita partnered Sahil Jadhav to victory. Their gold-medal performance also secured India a quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Despite her individual exit, Chikita leaves the competition with two Asian Games gold medals from the team events and a significant contribution to India’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
