Araria, 01 October (H.S.): A joint team of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 56th Battalion’s D Company Bela and Basmatia Police arrested a man carrying 1.6 million Nepalese rupees and seized a motorcycle during an operation along the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Araria district on Thursday.

Acting on specific information, the SSB and Basmatia Police conducted an operation near Bela Yadav Tola, close to India-Nepal border pillar number 197/5. A joint patrol team comprising SSB Inspector Ranjit Mohanta and other personnel, along with Basmatia Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar and other police personnel, intercepted a suspicious motorcyclist travelling from India towards Nepal. The motorcycle was a Super Splendor bearing registration number BR 59 E/2629.

During questioning, the rider identified himself as 18-year-old Parvez Alam, son of Jamaluddin Ansari, and a resident of Rainwala in Nepal’s Sunsari district.

During a search conducted by the SSB and police personnel, a total of NPR 1.6 million in cash was recovered from a bag in his possession. The seized currency comprised 1,000 notes of NPR 1,000 denomination, 1,120 notes of NPR 500 denomination and 400 notes of NPR 100 denomination.

The young man was unable to provide any documentary evidence or satisfactory explanation regarding the possession of the Nepalese currency. He was subsequently arrested.

During preliminary questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that he had received the money from Bela Market and was taking it to Basmatia to hand it over to a person identified as Imam Ansari, who was allegedly supposed to transport the cash illegally into Nepal.

After completing the necessary legal and documentation procedures, the motorcycle and the arrested individual were handed over to the Customs Office in Forbesganj for further action.
