New Delhi, 01 October (H.S.): The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the West Bengal government in connection with the alleged eviction of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from a Circuit House in Nadia district. The Court has directed the state government to file its response within one week. The order was passed by a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

In her petition, Mahua Moitra has alleged that local authorities evicted her from government accommodation allotted to her in her parliamentary constituency at around 11 p.m. The petition states that the District Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate were also involved in the action.

Moitra has filed the petition under Article 32 of the Constitution, which allows citizens to directly approach the Supreme Court for the enforcement of their fundamental rights in cases of alleged violations.

The petition further states that the High Court had already passed an order granting her protection in the matter, despite which local authorities allegedly removed her from the accommodation. It has also contended that such action against a woman Member of Parliament is a serious matter and warrants an independent investigation.
