Kolkata, 01 October (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has appealed to the people of the state to rise above communal divisions and urged all nationalist citizens to stand firmly behind the state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Addressing an election rally in Rejinagar in Murshidabad district on Thursday, the Chief Minister underscored the administration's commitment to regional development and highlighted the necessity of political probity.

The by-election for the Rejinagar assembly constituency is scheduled for October 6, where the BJP has fielded Shakharav Sarkar as its candidate. Campaigning in support of the party nominee, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari directly engaged with the electorate, urging them to give the government an opportunity to serve and place the administration in their debt. Issuing a clear message from the stage, he asked voters not to get swayed by the divisive politics of '70-30' or religious polarization. He emphasized that all nationalist individuals must rally behind the state government, promising that in return, the administration will transform Rejinagar into a 'model assembly constituency'.

During the public meeting, the Chief Minister also launched a sharp political offensive against Humayun Kabir, legislator and founder of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party. Terming Kabir's recent controversial statement wishing for the Chief Minister's death as utterly inhuman, Adhikari questioned the gathering whether they would cast their valuable ballots in favor of someone exhibiting such conduct.

Expressing strong indignation over the remarks, the Chief Minister noted that the political battlefield naturally involves ideological contests, debates, sharp arguments, discussions, and critiques, which ultimately result in victory for one side and defeat for the other. Despite this accepted democratic decorum, he pointed out, Kabir had publicly claimed to pray every Friday for the Chief Minister's premature demise.

Condemning the statement, Adhikari asserted that while political opposition has its rightful place, he would never resort to such coarse and malicious language even against his fiercest adversary.
