New Delhi, 01 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared a Sanskrit verse from Bhartrihari’s Neetishatakam, highlighting the importance of perseverance, determination and sustained effort in the pursuit of one’s goals.
As part of his regular Subhashitam series, Modi shared the verse on X and explained its message through the example of the churning of the ocean.
The verse reads:
“Ratnairmahabdhestutushurna deva na bhejire bhimavishena bhitim,
Sudham vina na prayayurviramam na nishchitarthadviramanti dhirah.”
Explaining the verse, Modi said that just as the gods did not stop after obtaining precious treasures and were not deterred by the emergence of deadly poison, they continued their efforts until they obtained the nectar of immortality.
He said the verse conveys that steadfast and determined people continue striving until they achieve the objective they have set for themselves.
The message places emphasis on resilience in the face of obstacles and on maintaining focus until a desired goal is achieved.
The verse is from Neetishatakam, a classical Sanskrit work attributed to poet Bhartrihari, which contains reflections on wisdom, conduct, values and human behaviour.
Through his Subhashitam posts, Modi has frequently highlighted verses from India’s classical literary and philosophical traditions, drawing attention to their contemporary relevance.
