New Delhi, 01 October (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that with wars and conflicts prevailing in several parts of the world, Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence has become even more relevant in the present times.

In her address to the nation on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, the President said she respectfully paid homage, on behalf of the people of India, to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 157th birth anniversary. She said Gandhi’s life and ideals continue to command widespread respect across the global community.

President Murmu said that several parts of the world are currently witnessing an atmosphere of war and conflict, the repercussions of which are being felt by countries across the globe. In such circumstances, she said, Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence becomes more important than ever.

The President said India is progressing towards the national goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. In this journey, the values of empathy and inclusiveness are being accorded priority so that no citizen is left behind in sharing the benefits of development.

She said this approach reflects the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideal of ‘Sarvodaya’, which is based on the principle of the welfare and upliftment of all.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the President called upon citizens to reaffirm their commitment to building a strong, developed and self-reliant India through ethical conduct and active participation.
