Mumbai, 01 Oct
(HS): Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has shifted flights
operating from Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 2, from October 1 to 25, 2026. The
two terminals handle about 950 flights everyday.
The closure of
T1 is considered a major construction expected to begin in January 2027. About
15 million passengers were handled by T1 in the year 2025-2026 and about 40
million at Terminal 2. Shifting of international flights from T1 to T2 is
likely to cause chaos and inconvenience to passengers.
The
international flights are expected to be gradually shifted to newly developed Navi
Mumbai Airport, which is ready to operate international flights.
As the
demolition of T1 is expected to begin in January 2027, the terminal will be
closed for about four years and the flight operations will be shifted to Navi
Mumbai Airport.
