Mau, 1 Oct (HS): Following the death of three people after
being electrocuted by a high-tension power line during a wedding ceremony in
Domanpura (Islamabad) locality of Mau, Uttar Pradesh, late Wednesday night,
Energy and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma visited the homes of
the affected families. He met with the families, expressed his condolences, and
provided financial assistance of Rs. one lakhs to each family. On September
28th, while a tent was being erected on the rooftop for the wedding ceremony,
three people were struck by the high-tension power line. The deceased included
the groom's brother and two tent-installation workers.
The minister inquired about the families' financial
situation and assured them of all possible assistance. He directed officials to
ensure that families who do not own their own homes receive benefits under the
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He also directed eligible families to be
linked to other government schemes, including old-age pensions, widow pensions,
and Ayushman cards. The minister stated that while there is no set government
compensation provision for such accidents, the affected families will not be
left alone. Whatever assistance is possible will be provided, depending on the
circumstances. Guarding will be installed on the high tension line.
After the accident, to prevent recurrence of such incidents
in future, the minister directed the officials of the electricity department to
immediately install guarding on the high tension line. He told that the
concerned power line was operational much before the residential complex was
built and later people built houses there. In such a situation, it is necessary
to strengthen the safety measures. The minister told that the necessary
material for guarding is being made available and the safety work will be
started as soon as the material is available. He also appealed to the Municipal
Council President to provide financial assistance to the affected families from
his own level.
