
Hooghly, 01 October (H.S.): A cleanliness awareness programme under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organised by Jirat Bijoykrishna Mahavidyalaya to promote awareness about cleanliness and a clean environment. As part of the programme, an awareness march was held from Jirat College to Jirat Railway Station.
West Bengal Minister and Balagarh MLA Sumana Sarkar participated in the programme. She was seen taking part in the cleanliness drive with a broom in hand and joined students, teachers and other participants during the march.
The participants conveyed messages on cleanliness and environmental awareness to people along the route. They also appealed to residents to keep their surroundings clean and contribute towards creating a cleaner environment.
Sumana Sarkar said that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is not the responsibility of the administration alone but a collective commitment of every member of society. She stressed the need for people to keep their localities clean and encourage others to follow the message of cleanliness.
The awareness march began from the college campus and concluded at Jirat Railway Station, with students and local residents participating in the programme.
