Kokrajhar (Assam), 01 October (HS): The International Day of Older Persons was observed at the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Secretariat in Kokrajhar on Thursday as part of the ‘Nationwide Campaign of International Bonding’ being implemented under the State Action Plan for Senior Citizens.

The programme was conducted under the supervision of BTC Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. BTC Additional Principal Secretary Pranjit Kumar Wary, members of the BTC Vigilance and Monitoring Committees, and officials and employees of the Secretariat were present at the event.

Senior citizens attending the programme were felicitated in recognition of their valuable contributions, life experiences and important role in society. Speakers highlighted the significance of the knowledge and experience of older persons within families, communities and society.

The programme also stressed the need to safeguard the dignity, rights and welfare of senior citizens and ensure their meaningful participation in society. The importance of strengthening intergenerational relationships and promoting greater community engagement was also emphasised.

The event underlined the collective responsibility of families, communities and institutions to ensure the welfare, respect and social inclusion of older persons and provide them opportunities to lead dignified lives while continuing to contribute meaningfully to society.----------
