New Delhi/Washington, 01 October (H.S.): Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the two sides discussed the India-US bilateral trade agreement.

In a post on X, Goyal said he held a meeting with Greer during the G20 trade ministers’ gathering in Milwaukee. He said the discussions were constructive and focused on efforts to conclude an interim agreement under the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) at the earliest, with outcomes beneficial to both countries.

The Commerce Minister said the two sides also exchanged views on discussions taking place under the US presidency of the G20.

Goyal also met European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič on the sidelines of the meeting. He said the two sides reviewed progress towards signing and implementing the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Their discussions also covered progress under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council, meaningful reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and shared priorities within the G20 framework.

Apart from these engagements, Goyal held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Brazil and Mexico. On Wednesday, he met Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry, Foreign Trade and Services Márcio Fernando Elias Rosa and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee.

The discussions come as Brazil and Mexico, like several other trading partners, have been affected by tariff measures adopted by the United States. The meetings provided an opportunity for the ministers to exchange views on trade and broader economic issues of mutual interest.
