New Delhi, 01 October (H.S.): Global markets are sending mixed signals on Thursday, with US equities ending the previous session on a mixed note, European markets remaining under pressure and most Asian indices trading higher.

US markets closed with divergent results in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures were trading firmly higher on Thursday. Bond yields remained elevated, weighing on sentiment and pushing major Wall Street indices down from their session highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 600 points from its intraday high. The S&P 500 declined 0.25 per cent to close at 7,651.54, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.24 per cent to finish at 26,861.06.

Dow Jones futures were trading 146.04 points, or 0.29 per cent, higher at 51,052.09.

European markets remained under selling pressure during the previous session. The FTSE index declined 0.29 per cent to close at 10,606. The CAC index fell 71.36 points, or 0.90 per cent, to finish at 7,964.51, while Germany’s DAX dropped 200.02 points, or 0.79 per cent, to end at 25,199.19.

Asian markets, meanwhile, showed a broadly positive trend in Thursday’s trading. Seven of the nine tracked Asian indices were trading in positive territory, while two were in the red.

Gift Nifty declined 0.21 per cent to 22,611.50, while Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index fell 0.44 per cent to 6,044.66.

Singapore’s Straits Times Index was trading 0.12 per cent higher at 5,686.97. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 89.70 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 24,613.27.

Japan’s Nikkei index recorded a strong rise, gaining 1,776.28 points, or 2.66 per cent, to reach 68,530.

South Korea’s KOSPI also advanced sharply, rising 80.12 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 6,918.16.

Taiwan’s Weighted Index gained 161.27 points, or 0.34 per cent, to trade at 48,101.40. The Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.31 per cent at 3,842.19, while Thailand’s SET Composite Index rose 0.22 per cent to 1,562.43.

The mixed global cues come as investors assess movements in bond yields and the direction of major international equity markets, while Asian shares generally maintain a positive tone at the start of the new trading session.
