Kolkata, 01 October (H.S.): Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has signed Letters of Intent (LoI) to launch three major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in West Bengal's Paschim Bardhaman district. The LoIs were formally presented by ECL Director (HR) Gunjan Kumar Sinha during the 'CSR Roundtable 2026', convened by the state Finance Department in Kolkata. Held under the overarching theme Building a Viksit Bengal for Collective Social Impact, the high-level event brought together State Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, senior government bureaucrats, representatives from central and state PSUs, and private sector delegates to strategize on regional development priorities and collaborative welfare interventions.
The three approved projects place a strong emphasis on grassroots health and infrastructure development. The primary initiative involves providing vital nutritional support to tuberculosis patients in Paschim Bardhaman under the 'Ni-kshay Mitra' framework of the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan'. Alongside this healthcare push, ECL will undertake the extensive renovation of Anganwadi centers situated around its mining zones and execute the ecological rejuvenation of a water body within one of its operational areas. Company management emphasized that these targeted initiatives have been meticulously designed to align with local development priorities and address the fundamental needs of the rural and urban communities residing near ECL's operational bases.
ECL's 'Ni-kshay Mitra' initiative drew special commendation during the roundtable discussions. Narayan Swaroop Nigam, Principal Secretary of the State Health and Family Welfare Department, highly appreciated the coal major's proactive steps in providing both nutritional assistance to TB patients and essential diagnostic equipment to fortify preventive healthcare infrastructure in the district. In its official statement, ECL reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to community welfare, sustainable ecological development, and the creation of shared values across its command areas through its continuous CSR interventions.
