New Delhi, 01 October (H.S.):
A five-member delegation of Sri Lanka’s ruling Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin at the BJP’s central office in New Delhi on Thursday.
The meeting was organised under the BJP’s international outreach initiative, ‘Know BJP’.
The delegation, led by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two political parties and shared experiences relating to party organisation and functioning. The two sides also exchanged views on matters concerning the promotion of mutual political and diplomatic cooperation.
During its visit to India, the Sri Lankan delegation also met BJP national organisation general secretary B.L. Santosh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra.
The meetings provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange experiences on the functioning of political organisations, public outreach and organisational expansion.
The five-member JVP delegation is on a four-day official visit to India from September 27 to October 1, 2026. During the visit, the delegation also toured the Indian Parliament and the BJP office in New Delhi.
The visit is being undertaken as part of the BJP’s international outreach programme aimed at engaging with political parties from other countries and facilitating the exchange of organisational experiences. Such interactions are also relevant in the broader context of political and diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka.
