Kokrajhar (Assam), 01 October (HS): Police seized 4.6 kg of ganja during an operation at Balajan Tiniali in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, following complaints from local residents about alleged illegal sale and consumption of narcotic substances in the area.

According to the information available, the contraband was recovered from the premises of a house belonging to Sumitra Nath, a resident of Balajan Tiniali. Three persons have been detained by the police in connection with the seizure.

The incident came to light after a group of local women reached Nath’s residence on the night of September 30 and protested against the alleged sale and consumption of ganja in the locality. A large number of women reportedly gathered at the spot and surrounded the house. They also allegedly caught some persons suspected of buying and selling ganja and informed the police.

Acting on the information, police reached the spot and conducted a search of the premises. During the operation, 4 kg 600 grams of ganja was recovered, a substantial portion of which was allegedly concealed underground.

Police have detained three persons for questioning and are investigating the source of the contraband as well as the possible involvement of others in its alleged illegal trade.----------
