Wild animal attack in Jalpaiguri, one dead, two injured


Jalpaiguri, 09 January (H.S.): A wild animal attack has caused panic in Shikarpur area of Rajganj police station in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Ratiya Oraon (52), a resident of Phultipara village, died during treatment, while two others were injured.

As per information, Ratiya Oraon had gone to work in a tea garden near his home when a wild animal attacked him. The animal also attacked two other people simultaneously, injuring them as well.

One of the injured, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at Belakoba Rural Hospital, while Ratiya Oraon and another seriously injured person were admitted to the super-specialty hospital at Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital. Ratiya Oraon died late Thursday night during treatment. The other injured person is still receiving treatment.

Following the incident, the Forest Department has launched a search operation in the affected tea garden area to locate the wild animal. The deceased's body will be post-mortem examined at the Jalpaiguri hospital morgue on Friday.

According to the Forest Department, the deceased and the injured will be compensated as per government rules. Forest Department sources have identified the injured as Mohan Majhi and Bablu Oraon.
