New Delhi, 09 January (H.S.): A 60% disabled employee at Saket Court, Harish Singh Mahar, took his life Friday by jumping from the fifth floor of the complex where he served as Ahlmad for Judge Nandini Garg's courtroom, citing overwhelming job stress in a suicide note that has sparked protests and demands for judicial inquiry.
Police recovered the poignant note at the scene, in which Mahar detailed relentless pressure from Ahlmad duties post-assignment, insomnia plaguing his nights, and futile hopes of early retirement benefits before age 60; he implored the Delhi High Court against assigning light-duty roles to future disabled staff, lamenting his inability to overcome mounting mental anguish despite initial optimism.
Staff Sit-In and Rights Outcry Intensify
The tragedy triggered an immediate sit-in by Saket Court staff outside the premises, with lawyers and National Platform for Disabled Persons' president Dilip Kumar voicing outrage and pressing for a thorough judicial probe into workplace conditions. Authorities dispatched the body for post-mortem as investigations probe potential systemic failures exacerbating vulnerabilities for differently-abled personnel in judicial service.
