Mumbai, 09 January (HS): The Mumbai unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday suspended 26 party office-bearers for six years for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities, Mumbai BJP president Amit Satam said.
Satam stated that the party had received information about rebels opposing authorised candidates during the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. Senior party leaders attempted to persuade those involved, following which several members accepted the party line and began campaigning for the official candidates.
However, 26 office-bearers ignored the advice of senior leaders. Subsequently, a meeting of senior Mumbai BJP leaders was held, during which a decision was taken to initiate strict action against the rebels. The decision to suspend them for six years was taken after the meeting held at the Dadar party office.
