Mumbai, 09 January (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled 27 party office-bearers in Jalgaon for alleged anti-party activities during the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation elections, according to a press release issued by the state party office.

As per the release, the BJP had fielded Praful Devkar, son of former minister Gulabrao Devkar, as its official candidate for the civic polls. However, former Standing Committee chairman of the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation, Jitendra Marathe, revolted against the party decision. Suresh Bhole, Sangeeta Patil, and their supporters also opposed the party candidate.

The party had issued show-cause notices to those involved two days ago, seeking explanations for their actions. As no replies were received within the stipulated time, the BJP initiated disciplinary action and expelled all 27 office-bearers from the party.
