Imphal, 7 January (HS): Security forces in Manipur have arrested two women linked to the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak) on charges of abducting minors with the alleged aim of recruiting them into the outfit, police said on Wednesday.

According to officials, the arrests were made from the Khangabok area of Thoubal district. The action followed an inquiry into the disappearance of three children from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai in Kakching district on Sunday.

Police said the minors were traced to Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district, from where they were safely rescued and later reunited with their families. A vehicle allegedly used in the abduction was also seized during the operation.

A senior officer said investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected to be involved in the incident.

Security measures and search operations have remained heightened across Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023 between Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups, resulting in over 260 deaths and the displacement of thousands.

The state is currently under President’s Rule following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The Manipur Assembly, whose term runs until 2027, has been kept under suspended animation.
