Bhubaneswar, 07 January (H.S.): The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Gurujang in Odisha’s Khurda district has been closed until January 14 following the detection of jaundice cases among students, school authorities said on Tuesday.

As a precautionary measure to safeguard students’ health, the residential school has decided to send students back to their homes temporarily. The decision was taken on the advice of the Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) headquarters, Noida, the school principal confirmed.

“The institution has been closed to prevent any further spread of infection and to allow sufficient time for sanitation, medical review, and continuous monitoring of students’ health,” the principal said.

Parents have been advised to closely monitor their children for any symptoms and seek medical attention if required.

According to reports, around 70 students out of the total strength of 560 are suspected to have been affected by jaundice. However, school authorities maintained that only a limited number of confirmed cases have been detected so far.

Officials from the Health Department visited the school campus, conducted inspections, and collected samples from students for medical examination. Further action will be taken based on the test results, officials said.

The situation is being closely monitored by the district administration and health authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
