Guwahati, 7 January (HS): The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday suspended its joint secretary, Shahnawaz Ahmed, with immediate effect on charges of gross party indiscipline.

According to an order issued by the APCC, the suspension was carried out on the direction of Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi. Ahmed has been accused of damaging the party’s image and deliberately creating political discord among party workers.

The order, signed by APCC general secretary (organisation) Bipul Gogoi, stated that the suspension will remain in force until further notice. Copies of the order were circulated to senior Congress leaders and party office-bearers.

No immediate response from Shahnawaz Ahmed was available at the time of filing this report.-------------
