Kolkata, 07 January (H.S.): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Malviya on Wednesday shared a post on the social media platform 'X', accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of an anti-tribal stance. He claimed that a tribal cultural programme organized by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), under the Union Ministry of Culture, was forcibly stopped in Jhargram.
According to Amit Malviya, the tribal cultural programme called Paush Parba, organized by EZCC, was scheduled to be held at the Hindu Mission Math in Jhargram on January 7 and 8, 2026, from 10 AM to 8 PM. As per the established procedure, permission was sought from the Superintendent of Police, District Magistrate, and Block Development Officer (BDO) of Jhargram for the programme. Letters were sent to them on December 3, 2025, and their receipt was also confirmed.
He alleged that despite having all the necessary permissions, when approximately 2,500 tribal artists arrived to participate in the programme, the officer-in-charge (IC) of Jhargram police station arrived at the venue with a police force and stopped the programme, stating that instructions had come from higher authorities.
Amit Malviya termed this action a conspiracy to deprive tribal artists of their platform and to prevent the central government from reaching the grassroots level. He questioned who these higher authorities were, on whose instructions the program was stopped.
At the end of the post, Amit Malviya demanded that Mamata Banerjee, who also holds the portfolio of Home Minister of West Bengal, come forward and answer for this alleged anti-tribal action.
