New Delhi, 06 January (H.S.): The Tata Group has initiated a search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Air India, signaling a potential early exit for current CEO Campbell Wilson. Although Wilson’s term is set to end in 2027, reports suggest he could be replaced before then.
Official sources revealed on Tuesday that, following the June 2025 Air India aircraft crash, the airline has been under intense scrutiny. This has prompted the Tata Group to consider placing Air India under new leadership.
The group is also evaluating the appointment of a new Managing Director (MD) for its subsidiary, Air India Express, where Alok Singh’s tenure is due to conclude in 2027. The recent aviation accident and Air India’s weak financial performance post-privatization are considered key reasons for these leadership changes.
Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekharan has already held discussions with several experienced airline executives for the CEO position.
Meanwhile, the final report on the Boeing 787-8 aircraft crash is expected around June this year. Wilson attended a scheduled meeting at Tata House on Monday, underscoring the ongoing transition.
Wilson was appointed as CEO and Managing Director of Air India in July 2022, after the Tata Group acquired the airline from the government in January 2022.
