Guwahati, 6 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on January 18. During his visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the proposed elevated corridor at the Mauchanda field in Kaliabor.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the project will significantly improve connectivity in the Kaliabor region and is part of the state government’s broader infrastructure push aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity.

Dr Sarma also said that after the record-setting performances of Bihu and Jhumoir dances, the state is now targeting another cultural milestone with Bagurumba dance. As part of the programme, around 10,000 artistes will perform the traditional Bagurumba dance in the presence of the Prime Minister at Sarusajai Stadium.

He added that preparations are underway for the mega cultural event, with more than 400 master trainers being trained in Guwahati to ensure coordinated and high-quality performances. The Chief Minister said the initiative reflects Assam’s commitment to showcasing its rich cultural heritage on a national platform.----------
