Bhubaneswar, 06 January (H.S.): Expelled Odisha Congress leader and former Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim on Tuesday announced plans to launch a new political party in the state, with the groundwork set to begin on January 12, coinciding with National Youth Day.
Moquim, who was recently expelled from the Congress on charges of anti-party activities, said the proposed party would prioritise young leadership, particularly from Odisha’s coastal districts. While the initial organisational work will commence on January 12, the party is expected to be formally launched in the last week of March.
“A new political party comprising leaders from the BJD and the Congress will begin taking shape from January 12. Several young doctors have also held discussions with me. There is growing interest among leaders to form a party distinct from the traditionally dominant BJD, BJP and Congress,” Moquim said.
He added that the party would focus on Odisha-specific issues and aim to offer an alternative political platform in the state. Moquim also revealed that the party’s name would retain an association with the Congress, though the final name is yet to be decided.
“Consultations are currently underway, including discussions with astrologers, before finalising the party’s name,” he added.
