Mamata Banerjee returns to Kolkata after reviewing Gangasagar mela preparations

Kolkata, 06 January (H.S.): After reviewing the preparations and arrangements for the Gangasagar Mela, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returned to Kolkata by helicopter on Tuesday, concluding her visit to Gangasagar. During her visit, the Chief Minister inspected the security, transportation, and administrative arrangements related to the fair.

Earlier, the Chief Minister held a meeting with administrative officials in the Gangasagar area and issued necessary directives regarding the convenience and safety of the pilgrims. She stated that the state government is fully vigilant to ensure that devotees do not face any difficulties on their journey from Kolkata to Gangasagar.

The Chief Minister announced that pilgrims, devotees, and journalists on duty at the Gangasagar Mela will be covered under an insurance scheme providing coverage of Rs. 5 lakh. This insurance facility will be effective from January 7 to January 19.

She mentioned that due to the Gangasagar island area being surrounded by water and forests, there is a risk of encounters with wild animals and accidents related to waterways. Keeping these risks in mind, the security and relief arrangements have been further strengthened.

With the Chief Minister's return to Kolkata, the final preparations for the Gangasagar Mela are being completed. The state government claims that this year's Gangasagar Mela will be conducted safely, efficiently, and peacefully.
