
Malda, 06 January (H.S.): Another incident of firing has been reported in Kaliachak area of Malda district in West Bengal. One person was seriously injured in the incident, and another was allegedly assaulted.
According to local sources, both the attackers and the victims are said to be supporters of the Trinamool Congress.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Yadupur area under Kaliachak police station. As per information, Jalaluddin Sheikh alias Lupu was shot in the stomach and admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Another person injured in the incident is also being treated at the same hospital.
According to local sources, the dispute began over a cricket match between two groups. Allegedly, Lupu was attacked while trying to resolve the dispute. Another person who came to his rescue was also attacked and allegedly struck on the nose with the butt of a gun.
Lupu's family alleged that Hidayat Sheikh, son of local Trinamool leader Babar Sheikh, fired the shots. However, no arrests had been made in the case at the time of filing of this news..
On information about the incident, Kaliachak police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Malda Police Superintendent Abhijit Bandyopadhyay said, “We have received information about the incident. Strict action will be taken against all those involved in this crime.” He also said that the reasons behind the incident are being investigated and search operations are being conducted at various locations.
