The court dismissed the state government's appeal against a previous order that permitted the traditional lighting of the lamp atop the Thirupparankundram hill.

Nagenthran described the verdict as a significant rebuke to the administration, which he accused of intentionally creating a sense of panic and religious tension among the public for its own political benefit. He claimed that the government’s attempt to block the age-old ritual by citing law and order concerns was a misuse of authority.

The BJP leader further alleged that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department had acted against the sentiments of devotees.
