Irregular Names in Draft Voter List Sparks Controversy in Dhing

Nagaon (Assam), 6 January (HS): A controversy has erupted in Dhing after allegations surfaced regarding the inclusion of unfamiliar names in the draft voter list, reportedly linked to the family of the Deka Sattriya of Shri Shri Norowa Balisatra at Dumdumiyagaon.

According to the allegation, the names of Jahura Khatun, Sahidul Islam and Shamim Anicha have appeared in the voter list as members of the family of Yadav Chandra Dev Goswami, the Deka Sattriya of the historic satra. It has been claimed that these names were not previously associated with the Goswami family.

The matter has raised serious questions over the accuracy and verification process of the draft voter list, with critics alleging that names of unknown persons have been added without proper scrutiny.

Local residents and social organisations have demanded a thorough verification of the voter list and urged the Election Commission authorities to conduct an inquiry to ensure that only eligible and genuine voters are included.

As of the time of filing this report, no official response has been issued by the election authorities regarding the allegations.-----------
