Howrah, 06 January (H.S.): Two people died on the spot in a road accident on Mumbai Road in Howrah on Tuesday morning.

As per information, a truck was parked on the side of the Kolkata-bound lane of Mumbai Road in the Barunda area of Howrah at around 6:15 AM on Tuesday. There was no driver in the parked truck at the time. Suddenly, a truck carrying chickens, coming from the direction of Deulti, crashed into the back of the parked truck.

The collision was so powerful that the front of the chicken truck was completely destroyed. The driver and a passenger were trapped inside the cabin, while a cleaner was thrown out of the vehicle onto the road due to the impact.

On information Bagnan police arrived at the scene. The police extricated the two people trapped in the cabin, but they had already died. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The injured cleaner has been admitted to the hospital.

According to sources, the chicken truck had picked up chickens from a poultry farm in the Nawasan area, gone to Deulti, and was then heading towards Jaipur.

The police's preliminary assessment is that the accident was caused due to dense fog. However, the police are also investigating whether there was any technical malfunction in the vehicle.
