Akhil Gogoi Alleges Vote Theft, Accuses BJP of Appeasement Politics Targeting Miya Voters

Guwahati, 6 January (HS): Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday accused the BJP of indulging in divisive politics under the guise of voter list revision, alleging that the issue of “vote theft” is being used to target Miya Muslim voters.

Addressing the media, Gogoi claimed that BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia had advised the government to remove the names of legitimate voters from the electoral rolls in as many as 60 Assembly constituencies. He further alleged that the responsibility of deleting names from the voter list has been entrusted to Assam minister Ashok Singhal.

According to Gogoi, the proposed deletion of voter names would disproportionately affect Muslim voters, causing maximum damage to the minority community. He also alleged that the government is conspiring to eventually declare these affected Muslim voters as ‘D-voters’ in the future.

The Raijor Dal leader strongly criticised the move, terming it an attack on democratic rights and warning against what he described as deliberate targeting of a particular community through administrative measures.---------
