
Cachar (Assam), 6 January (HS): In a major anti-narcotics operation, security agencies recovered 40 boxes of suspected heroin during a raid conducted at the Sunabarighat bypass area along the Silchar–Aizawl Road last night.
Acting on source input, the team intercepted a Bolero pickup bearing registration number AS-10BC-0616 and a Hyundai Venue with registration number AS-10J-0676. During a thorough search, suspected heroin weighing approximately 406 grams was recovered from a secret chamber concealed inside the Bolero pickup.
Five persons were apprehended in connection with the seizure. The accused have been identified as Kamrul Islam (23) of Nilambazar’s Rupargul area in Sribhumi district; Halim Uddin (25) of Kutkuna, Nilambazar, Sribhumi; Hmun Pui (50) of Zema Bawk, Aizawl, Mizoram; Sarmina Parbin (22) of Kutkuna, Nilambazar, Sribhumi; and Lalthanpui (41) of Champai, Mizoram.
According to officials, the vehicles were coming from Champai district of Mizoram. Legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the forward and backward linkages of the drug trafficking network.
