The Election Commission has released its report on the controversy in which three citizens were claimed to have been shown as “dead” in the draft electoral roll during a public meeting addressed by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. The Commission clarified that the incident was not the result of any conspiracy but occurred due to an unintentional administrative error.

According to the Election Commission, during a political rally held in Baruipur on January 02, Abhishek Banerjee brought three individuals—Manirul Islam Molla, Hare Krishna Giri and Maya Das—onto the stage, alleging that their names had been marked as deceased in the draft voter list. Following the incident, the Commission immediately sought a report from the District Election Officer on the same day.

After reviewing the report, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state stated that the name of Maya Das, a resident of the Kakdwip Assembly constituency, had been mistakenly deleted from the electoral roll due to an error by the concerned Booth Level Officer. Similarly, in the cases of Manirul Islam Molla and Hare Krishna Giri, residents of the Metiaburuz Assembly constituency, the Booth Level Officer was found to be at fault, resulting in their names being wrongly shown as deceased in the draft list.

The report further noted that Hare Krishna Giri’s name was not included in the list of 5.8 million names removed prior to the publication of the draft electoral roll, yet his name was missing from the final draft list.

The Election Commission has stated that all three individuals have been provided Form 6 for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. Once the forms are duly filled and submitted, their names will be restored in the voter list.
