Panaji, 04 January (H.S.): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap, the inaugural of two advanced pollution control vessels (PCVs), at Goa Shipyard Limited in Vasco, South Goa, on Monday.

This state-of-the-art vessel, boasting over 60 percent indigenous content and crafted entirely by Goa Shipyard Limited, measures 114.5 meters in length, displaces 4,200 tonnes, attains speeds exceeding 22 knots, and offers an endurance of 6,000 nautical miles.

Equipped with sophisticated oil spill detection systems, it excels in high-precision recovery of viscous pollutants, contaminant analysis, and oil separation from tainted water, bolstering comprehensive response operations across India's Exclusive Economic Zone and beyond.

The commissioning ceremony will feature Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Indian Coast Guard Director General Paramesh Sivamani, and other senior dignitaries.

Samudra Pratap integrates cutting-edge armaments—a 30mm CRN-91 gun and twin 12.7mm stabilised remote-controlled guns with fire control systems—alongside an indigenous integrated bridge system, platform management system, automated power management, and high-capacity external firefighting apparatus.

Post-commissioning, the vessel will base at ICG's Kochi station, markedly amplifying pollution mitigation, firefighting, maritime safety, and security prowess amid the force's fleet.
